"I'm trying to convey the universal feeling of prayer so I am focusing on my subject as a man, rather than a representative of a particular religious denomination. I hope the light conveys a spiritual feeling.
"I used the strong yellow lines in his robe to draw the eye upward and add to the hopeful, emotional context of the work. I found myself thinking of the Lord's Prayer when I was working on this."
