The First Journey: Sunset 5 June 1883

"It is sunset of June 5, 1883 - the first day of the Orient Express' five-day journey from Paris to Constantinople. The painting is set in eastern France. I purposely did not set it in a specific town. Instead, I combined images of architecture to create the general area of eastern France. I wanted to capture the most famous train in the world."
