After the Dust Storm

In this painting, a flanker rides outside of a cavalry column in southeast Arizona circa the late 1880s. The column has been moving through a dust storm as indicated by the bandana across the rider's nose and the lack of detail in the background. A dust storm meant the flankers could ride closer to the column because the risk of attack was reduced.
