"Come, ye thankful people, come, Raise the song of harvest home; All is safely gathered in, Ere the winter storms begin!" Can't you just imagine these people joyfully singing this 19th-century hymn as they happily go about their tasks? These are memories and fond recollections of a family's large garden and the autumn days spent canning and pickling home-grown fruits and vegetables. All summer long the grape arbors would scent the air deliciously and any day during the winter you could open a jar of grape jam and get a glorious whiff of summertime.
