"One summer vacation about fifty years ago, I used to row across Lake Quonapaug every morning to get milk from this very farm. Forty years later, I happened to drive past it on a bitter, cold January afternoon, when the late sun made the barn glow like a jewel and the snow shadows were a fiery blue. I have always loved the way this farm looked with its bare hill pasture setting it off but it was particularly nice that winter's day, so I painted it. "It is now captured for all time as it is rapidly falling apart. The cupola is gone - the silo too. It's sad that such an interesting and typical farm should fall into ruin and neglect."
