Dusk

"I knew I wanted a main center of interest which is the white-tailed buck, but I also wanted it to be part of the environment. Anyone familiar with the white-tailed deer, especially anyone who grows corn, knows that it is one of their favorite foods. I also like the look of dried-out winter corn because when all those stalks are backlit, they become shafts of light themselves. Some of the stalks and leaves are transparent.

"I like intricate, difficult subjects. You either have to enjoy painting all the cornstalks or you leave it alone. It won't work unless you get into creating all the details. It's almost like doing a jigsaw puzzle - it requires the same thought process but on a different, more artistic level."
