"Cheetahs have always portrayed a most sensitive demeanor," observed artist Simon Combes. "They are naturally shy and sensitive animals and, more often than not, will run away if approached by a vehicle. Even those who are less nervous and more accessible to the observer seem to me to have a perpetual disapproving frown on their faces, the black tear marks perhaps lending a touch of sadness. Now and again, they will turn and stare with their eyes before turning away as if disdainful of, but patiently resigned to, present company. You can almost hear the sigh."
