"My models were a half Zuni, half Navajo Indian named Louie Charlie and his son, Christopher who was two years old and just adorable. Because he looked so much like his father, I thought I would do a father and son painting rather than the usual mother and child.
"The seat is a traditional period one and used by men and not women. They were re-creating Indian life in the pre-Columbian days, before the arrival of the white man."
