CROW INDIAN DANCER

Details

"As the parade at the 1979 Crow Fair in Montana dispersed, this young Indian and several others climbed aboard one of the decorated flatbeds and engaged in spontaneous dancing to the beat of Indian drums. I turned my camera toward him, attempting to capture him in an unguarded moment. I later found that his name is Walter Old Elk and that he is the grandson of Curly, who was Custer's scout in the Battle of Little Bighorn. It was Curly who made a remarkable escape and notified the Army that there had been a major defeat the preceding day."
