Devilbelly Bay

There are many isolated stretches of beach along the Cape Cod peninsula, especially on the drive to Provincetown. The few structures bordering the ocean are without much character and the main building in this painting was in desperate need of one. So Charles hastened to rectify the situation. He added the foreground setting to create interest and give the picture some depth. The roadway was redesigned, adding a few items that would attract some attention. The rose-covered cottage was the icing on the cake in "Devilbelly Bay."
