RETURN OF THE RED GREMLIN (COUNTER SIGNED)
Details
The "Red Gremlin" transported General Mark Clark to Algeria to negotiate with the Free French, and, a short time later, conveyed Clark and General Dwight D. Eisenhower to North Africa to command that invasion.
The "Red Gremlin" also led the first 100-airplane daylight raid on occupied France with Tibbets, Ferebee and Van Kirk on the flight deck. The same trio flew together on the first atomic mission, almost three years after their first combat mission together.
Countersigners: Brig. Gen. Paul W. Tibbets, Thomas W. Ferebee, Theodore J. Van Kirk, Herman Haag, Zackie T. Gowan, Jr., Charles H. Peach.
