Details

Roche Harbor is one of two ports of entry in the San Juan Island group at the border of the United States and Canada in Washington state - a port of entry being a place where you have to clear customs. An owner in the 1880s developed the area as a tourist attraction. As a result the resort known as Roche Harbor was built - the centerpiece being the hotel deHaro with its gardens leading to the water. It's what you would imagine a resort from the 1920s would be like - or even the 1890s.
