Details
This must have been the landscape 200 years ago. The bison was truly a product of its prairie environment. The greasy hummocks in the much-trampled spring seem to echo the shapes of the bison in the hazy sun of a late autumn afternoon. The painting depicts the end of the day, the end of the season and the end of an era.
