Court and Spark
by Daniel Smith

The complex social order of the wolf pack is as nurturing and caring an environment as one will find in the wild. An alpha male and female, or breeding pair, form the nucleus of this tight knit family. As with any potential relationship, first impressions will last a lifetime.

Few species have undergone the change in public perception, thanks to conservation and education efforts, like the wolf. Dan’s involvement with the Yellowstone Wolf Recovery Project in the mid-1990s, when wolves were first being reintroduced to the Park, reinvigorated his interest in this apex predator. Court and Spark stood out as a collector favorite at the Eiteljorg Museum’s 2010 Quest for the West Art Show and Sale.

Through both his website, www.danielsmithwildlife.com and his Facebook page facebook.com/pages/Daniel-Smith-Wildlife-Art, Dan allows collectors incredible access to both his studio and himself. It’s worth going to both locations and while you are there, sign up for his newsletter as well!

Lab Puppies
by John Weiss

These are a few of artist John Weiss’ favorite things . . . Black Labradors, that is. Weiss is one of the country's most sought-after dog portrait artists because of his ability to capture the personality of both the breed and the exemplar in each dog portrait he creates. His paintings of dogs and of horses have an avid and loyal following. “Word of mouth has resulted in my works being sold all over the world,” he says. “There was even one portrait of a dog that was presented to Queen Elizabeth by Lady Barlow.”

“Expression is very important and unique to each breed and I wanted to represent a range of expressions with this tiny trio,” he says of the siblings in Lab Puppies. “These pups are typically very curious about their surroundings. It’s a big world out there and they’re already sniffing it out.” Honor the “Man’s Best Friend” in your house with this Fine Art Giclée Canvas Anniversary Edition, signed by legendary dog portrait artist John Weiss.
